Sewing pins every dressmaker needs

Unsure which pins you need? Here’s a quick and handy guide to some of the most common pins dressmakers keep in their kits:

Glass head pins - the most widely used, made out of nickel plated steel for strength but lack in flexibility.

Ball-point pins - for use when working with stretch knits or jersey fabrics as the slightly rounded point doesn’t break the threads.

Silk pins - these extra fine pins are made specifically for delicate fabrics like silk, where the fibres are delicate and don’t bounce back.

T pins - for holding down upholstery fabrics or for those tricky craft projects that require pressing with an iron.

Quilting pins - extra long and durable to account for the many layers of fabric that need to be held together.
