What is lamé material?

Pronounced lah-may, lamé is a type of woven fabric made from thin ribbons of metallic fibres. It’s usually gold, silver, copper or other brightly coloured metallic shades! Lamé is treated with a surface coating to give it it’s unique ‘liquid-like’ effect.

How to stop metallic lamé from fraying

Due to the nature of the thin fibres making up the extravagant material, it’s highly susceptible to fraying when it’s cut. However, there are a few things you can do to prevent this such as: Not cutting the fabric until you are absolutely ready to sew, and not handling the fabric more than necessary. It’s best to work quickly and with minimal contact before sewing.
